Frequently Asked Questions...

What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a form of holistic therapy that uses therapeutic essential oils (fragrant oils) extracted through steam distillation or expression from aromatic plants, such as flowers, fruit peels, herbs, leaves, or delicate plant tissues and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering and bettering one's mood, cognitive, psychological or physical well being.

There are 3 general forms of how Aromatherapy is carried out 1) Diffusion/Inhalation 2) Topical 3) Internal

Topical and Internal applications should be carried out by recommendation or guidance of an Aromatherapist, who specializes in the practice of aromatherapy, they can be used for therapeutic skin care, general massage, baths, compresses to stimulate the muscles and blood flow for a desired response.

What is Aroma Diffusion used for?
Aroma aerial diffusion is used for environmental scenting, environmental disinfection, respiratory disinfection, decongestant, expectoration as well as psychological effects.

What types of Aroma Diffusers are there on the market?
There are generally 3 types of aroma diffusers, each is unique in the styles it diffuses and releases the essential oil compounds into the air's atmosphere.

  1. Nebulizing diffuser= This works similar to a medical nebulizer machine, in that a powerful jet of compressed air blows through a small tube, thereby suspending the essential oils into small aerosol droplets that is released in the atmosphere as a fine mist that can be inhaled. These units are the most therapeutic, since it uses pure essential oils and no other ingredients, it is also more expensive since it will use up much more EO, good units will come with multiple timer options, that will conserve EO, as well as allowing the olfactory system to recover between mist intervals.

  2. Ultrasonic diffuser= This uses a mixture of water with just a few drops of EO, it emits ultrasonic vibrations to vibrate small disk under the surface at a very fast rate, breaking up water and EO into micro-particles, releasing them in atmosphere as a fine mist that can be inhaled, this type of unit is also very therapeutic and even adds the benefit of humidifying the air which is a plus (unless this is operated in a basement, next to sensitive furniture, or near a electronic devices such as a computer, where you don't want to introduce more moisture), it also adds the soothing sound of trickling water as well as LED lights (depending on the model), being that its mixed with water it can cover a bigger surface area for the less amount of EO.

  3. Evaporative diffuser= These work either with a fan that blows air through a pad that's soaked with EO, or through the use of heating up a metal or ceramic element beneath the oil, while either one can be a great option for scenting a room, still as for therapeutic benefits of EO, neither one is too advisable, fans and heat don't distribute the components of EO as well as Ultrasonic or Nebulizing, heat even alters the chemical constituents of the EO's thereby minimizing its the therapeutic qualities.

(We currently have only Ultrasonic Diffusers in stock, we will soon have Nebulizing Diffusers as well, this page will be updated when we do, you can also send us an email to be notified)

Are Aroma Diffusers safe to use?
Most therapeutic grade essential oils used in aromatherapy are safe to use, however when using a diffuser for infants, pregnant women, nursing mothers, elderly, people with severe allergies (some people might be allergic to certain essential oils), or for people with severe medical conditions, always consult professional advice beforehand, and use with care.

What type of Essential Oils works with your diffusers?
Our diffusers are designed to work only with 100% therapeutic essential oils. Make sure to get your essential oils from a reputable source. Essential oils may contain small amounts of natural plant waxes or resins. These may build up over time, unless removed by occasional cleaning. Some essential oils i.e. clove oil or cinnamon bark oil, may cause discoloration of the diffuser (however this will not affect the functionality of the diffuser). When using corrosive oils such as Citronella or Citrus, cleaning the diffuser after each use and proper care is a necessity; as the residue left overtime in the reservoir may cause damage to the ceramic disc and plastic parts over time.  Never use any other liquids, such as vegetable oils, massage oils or blends, synthetic fragrance oils, or perfumes; they may contain synthetic or corrosive chemicals that can damage your diffuser.  We do not recommend using steam distilled essential oils with a thick consistency, like patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla etc, as their thicker consistency will result in a clogged up diffuser (other essential oils are thinner, having mostly a water-like consistency), if you want to use them, make sure they are well blended with a carrier essential oil.  Do not use other aroma products like absolutes, balsams, resins and other botanical aromatics.

How many drops of Essential Oil is used in a general Ultrasonic Diffuser?
About 2-3 drops of essential oil per 100ml (3.38 Oz) of water, adding too much oil can overwhelm the diffuser.

What type of water is recommended use to a Ultrasonic Diffuser?
Only use Room Temp., Luke-Warm or Tap Water (If you have a lot of minerals in your tap water, it is recommended to use distilled or filtered water), do not use Cold, Hot or Hard Water.

How can I prevent moisture from damaging my furniture?
Due to the mist output of the diffuser, use caution on surfaces that are sensitive to water. Do not aim the device at walls, ceilings, furniture surfaces, as excess moisture could cause water damage.

How do I clean my diffuser?
Regular care and maintenance will extend the life and proper function of your diffuser and allow you to use a wider range of aroma blends and essential oils. We recommend a quick dry/damped cleaning after each use and a more thorough cleaning once a week, or more often depending on the intensity of use or type of essential oils used. This regular maintenance will help to preserve the operation of your diffuser. Your Diffuser should always be kept clean and dry when not in use.
